The Monkey Gold Needle is the crown jewel of Nepal’s Ilam district organic tea farm. Situated at 1800m, the tea gets the ‘monkey’ in its name because harvesters have to swing from branch to branch of 40 year old trees . Well, not anymore since they use cranes nowadays. Only the bud is harvested for The Monkey Gold Needle, it is extremely treasured as it is a product of the old trees enduring only 3 to 4 hours of sunlight, and an onslought of rain, winds and fog, typical Shakejung weather. The bud is hand rolled to perfection. This tea is scarcely produced for a select clientele.
